It sounded like you were not downgraded, but just the seats have not been available.

Long-haul J award can be very tight. As you can see from other threads, CX often releases more seats a few days before departure. That probably won't work for you as you will be way into your trip by then. The chance of clearing an award is better if you can be flexible on dates and flights.
