Many thanks, Stut. I had evidently overlooked the night ferry; this works well and even allows an hour or so visiting the forefathers (well, symbolically.) I may hire a car or cab to take us from Newton Abbot to Stokeinteignhead and then on to the ferry dock, rather than returning to the train then having to make our way across Plymouth later - less bag-handling needed.
