I don’t think anyone expects an ‘in-flight’ sandwich to be made to order on the spot.
Well, old chap, the sandwich was labeled and promoted as "Freshly Made". That alone, the realization that the airline was unlikely to be selling "freshly made" sandwiches, should have been ample evidence not to purchase one or at best, to expect little. "Premium"? Unless he was offered a chance to buy one of lesser quality/price, the term is meaningless, simply a marketing ploy. Not even Ryanair would offer to sell a sandwich labeled as "sub-standard" (Well, maybe "Sub-Par").

Sub-standard is an entirely relative term. Folks who regularly dine at MickyDs would likely define the term in quite different fashion, than those who frequent gourmet haunts. Looking back over a lifetime of airline sandwiches (with the exceptions of SAS and FinnAir in the grand old days), rubbery and sub-standard are terms quite applicable to almost every airline sandwich which sticks in my memory and stuck in my craw.
