Are the flights terribly busy or expected to be full? Depending on average flight loads and when your plans will be definite, another option might be to just buy one ticket and count on using the free SDC option to switch if you need to. As an MVPG, you can count on making it on pretty much any flight with an open seat.
Normally I would just SDC, but I need to make sure I am on one of these two flights (depending on which one I can make) and I don't want to risk not having a seat. And this way I'm even able to select a decent seat and even queue for an upgrade.
