Booking conflicting flights as MVPG
Recently I booked two flights on AS between the same cities but leaving at different times, with the intention of cancelling one of them once I know which flight I will be able to take. Because of my MVPG status, I know I am able to cancel a flight and use the credit later without incurring any change/rebooking fee. This is a huge benefit and could end up saving me an enormous amount of money, especially since I was able to lock in relatively cheap fares for both flights--basically the benefits of a refundable fare without the refundable price. But I feel a bit like I'm gaming the system and taking advantage of Alaska. Is there anything in the MVPG terms and conditions or contract of carriage that disallows booking conflicting flights as I have done here? Is this a common practice?
