)connecting to/from Asia and have been drenched/frozen/slipped on ice more than once. I guess I should have sent UA a bill for ruining my clothes/shoes right especially when they're covered in De-Icing Glycol in the winter ? Oh wait it's not UA's fault that the won't pay for gate space....It's mine for taking a flight on a rainy/snowy day

Because it MUST be UA's fault for building too small of a terminal back when the B and C concourses ere built in addition to the gate space they have in terminal 2.
They should just petition the city to let them spend some of the billions in profits they have been raking in in order to build another terminal at ORD, because ORD ATC really says hey don't have enough flights and would like to add at least 50 more flights per hour.
Believe it or not, up until after the yr 2001, UA was planning on building addl buildings at a huge cost, a *A intl building with customs and la migra, and a remote UAX terminal (similar to the C concourse. The profits that the airlines were raking in after from 2001 until now...well, they just invested them poorly, because well, the balance sheets don't show that money in the coffers currently.)
I guess the alternative is to park your planes out there in the penalty box and wait for a jetbridge gate...oh wait....the 3 hr rule...can't do that...guess UA should just cncl all the flights that don't have jetway gates.
As for DL in T2, well, NW owned some of the gates in T2 that they weren't using (from what I hear) and actually took back one of them from CO. CO owned one of the gates in T2 that UA uses, so they wanted it back. UA allowed CO access to T1 to keep the CO owned gates in T2 and also took over one of the old CO gates in T2 (I think it is E4.)
My question is who gave B6 their single gate?
And it is because of space, not costs, unless you mean the cost associated with building an entire new terminal. For example F2D has a brand new jetbridge that is uniquely long and convoluted, just to accommodate the little bit of geography at that spot. It would have been far easier and cheaper to make it a non-jetbridge gate, like the rest of F2 is, but they engineered a 1/2 statioanry, 1/2 moveable jetway with a hairpin turn in it, at cost, to put one there.
There were (and may still exist) plans to extend B22 to have even more planes, and that, IMHO is a terrible place with over crowding and chaos, as that is the only direction that one could grow at without a new building.
I'm not saying I like "outside operation" either, but they have existed continuously from the Wright brothers, up until today, and even the POTUS doesn't use a jetbridge, so don't feel that UA is doing it just to piss you off.
