I've just re-read this thread and was hoping to clear up some things I'm confused about.
The Mod added a note to the OP as of May, '10 (below) and posted that the individual dimensions couldn't exceed 22x18x10. But that's a typo right? The new policy as of May 2010 is that the individual dimensions can't exceed 22x14x9. Right?

MODERATOR'S NOTE
This thread has now been split out from the main http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...solidated.html thread.
As of 5/19/10, AA's Carry-on Baggage Policy now stipulates that carryon bags :-: must fit the sizer :-:, as well as measuring 45 linear inches max, with individual dimensions no greater than 22" long / 18" wide / 10" deep.
The measured dimensions of the airport sizers are discussed in two posts here.
Please be sure to provide the make and model of your rollaboard and your personal experience with AA's new gray sizers. If we get enough responses, I can transfer the information to a wiki page.

And then in this post dated June 26, 09,
dstan gave the actual interior measurements of the sizer:

So, the sizer's length and depth dimensions actually exceed AA's stipulated policy? Do I have this correct?
I'm sorry for being such a nuisance... but I'm in the market for a new carry-on and want to make sure about all this before I purchase. In the Travel Products Forum there's a thread on TravelPro's Crew 8, and a poster there just stated that the 20x14x9 rollaboard had EXTERIOR dimensions of 20x14x9 (currently the last post on the thread):
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...-crew-8-a.html. So that being the case, then the only dimension in question is the 14" width, that
dstan measured at 13.5" at the bottom of the crossbar.
Do you all think that this could potentially be a dealbreaker at certain airports?
