The OP is going to a mid range Bistro type restaurant where you can wear whatever you fell like as long as you are groomed and look clean enough!
Obviously the OP is a person who feels comfortable in jeans and trainers and I say go for it. If uncertain, have a peek at the clientel the evening before and get a general idea. If people are wearing anything but jeans and trainers, maybe this place is not for you or go with the flow and wear something similar.
I don't quite get the stuck-upness with clothing that seems to be coming out from America at the moment... We got rid of that in Europe (at lest in most places) decades ago

The OP didn't ask about jeans and sneakers directly in his post. I and others did in trying to answer his question, which I took to be "How do I fit in". Had his question been "What can I get away with" I would have answered as you did-go for it.
