markinberks got it almost right, but ommited that the bottle should be held at a slight angle, to minimise the risk of overflow, as if there is more surface area there is less risk of overflow when the cork is removed.

I don't know what the world is coming to.

Yes sorry about that. I use a tea towel. No one around me seems to mind how it comes out, as long as it does.

But I shall ask the butler next time, to sort his act out!!
