I've often wondered why AC doesn't simply make row 12 the first row on all AC (including DH3 and CRJ) for when things like this happens.

Back when I was a SE I used to fly YMM-YYC-YMM quite a bit and would book seat 12A. It happened a few times (although I admit it was not a regular occurence) where I ended up with 12A on the CRJ. I was not a happy camper on those flights (but never complained at the time, after all s*#t happens).
