Here's how it works. You check in for your flight at the CO counter, and they tag your bags. Then you go through security. Next you walk, with all your luggage, back through security all of about 50 feet to the departures drop-off curb to wait for the bus. When the bus comes, the driver loads all of the checked luggage in the back of the bus, and at EWR, you get off the bus and end up in Terminal C, while your checked bags get unloaded and checked through to your final destination.
Its been a few months since I took the ABE - EWR bus. Since when did you go through security at ABE? SOP is check in at ABE, if checking a bag then that has to be screened (is this what you meant?), bag is loaded on the bus, board at the curb. Passenger & carry-on screening is done at EWR through the regular security lines.
Or have they changed it (drastically) since the last time I took the bus?
