I haven't looked into the issue in detail, so I may have missed some obvious things; my current understanding is that:
- soft landing requires at least one level-miles earning activity in the year
- there is no expiry for your miles as long as you keep any Elite status
- the expiry rule kicks in FULLY as soon your status drops down to Ivory, i.e. you really need to check when was your last level-miles earning activity at that time, regardless of the fact that you have just lost your Elite status
