For the OP - it is possible in cases where the Club lounge is totally crowded and no seats available. If such happens ask the lounge staff if you can go to restaurant and eat there. Worked a few times but not always. If you really want breakfast in the restaurant book a rate that includes it and skip Club maybe if you don't use afternoon tea and evening drinks.
As far as breakfast goes I think the lounge offering from the menu is fairly nice if you like eggs or a pad thai or some pancakes. Yes the cold spread is very limited but I never had an issue of not being happy with the omelet, poached eggs etc. Yes there is more downstairs but who can eat all that.

Actually I am a vegetarian, so don't think there will be much option for me in the club lounge except the breads and cakes.
