Award availability is based on a standard guest room being available in inventory at the time of booking. If, at the time you change your reservation to FFN, those rooms are not available OUTSIDE of the room that you already have booked, we cannot change the reservation to utilize awards. You will see on the forum that many use points to guarantee the room and then switch to Promotional Awards at a later time. This removes the need to have that guestroom availability because you have already taken the award inventory. Hope this clears it up.
