Plus I used Flexperks points for the tickets, which gives me a $25 credit for each ticket to be used on baggage fees, onboard food, etc (as long as it's charged by AA). Since bags are already free (due to Gold status) I have a bunch of money I can spend on onboard food and drink.
Right, but if they're not serving anything you want to buy during the time you're flying, the $25 credit is pretty useless for food. Thus my suggestion to buy something in the airport if you're hungry and want to eat on the flight. Or you could just buy $25 of drinks and buzz out during the flight.
