Not wearing a suit and tie (especially in sweltering July heat) is one thing. But the discussion is on wearing sneakers and jeans, which is quite a different matter. The typical US version of that outfit is white sneakers and Levi's, and one does not see much of that in decent Paris restaurants and bistros.
