The LGW 'spare' 777 tends to be 4 class because it's less of a big deal to upgrade a 3 class route than it is to downgrade F pax if the spare was 3 class and used on a 4 class route. I guess one of the 3 class 777s has some planned maintenance.
That's interesting and it makes sense... how many 'spare' craft do BA have? And where are they typically based? Are they used often?
