Sorry to disagree with you completely. Bealine was completely correct in that we made a lot more money when excess charges were calculated on a kg basis than we do now on the heavy bag charge. Also, BA wasn't the first carrier to move to 23kgs, but it was one of the more vocal for it to be made universal. Similarly, BA was one of the most vocal and indeed was one of the key airlines in getting the standard set at 32kgs for any bag many years ago (yes, some airlines seem to ignore this, but the majority accept it as the limit per bag).

The issue is very much one of H&S and as others here have shown, it is not just BA that has pushed this, but various bodies and unions. The construction industry already has a limit on the weight of items that can be lifted and other industries have various measures in place to protect their employees. Why should the airline industry not have measures in place to protect some of its employees who do the heavy lifting?
