Sounds like a lot of juggling.
I assume you have the (required) data service on the iPhone, so you can use that and the laptop (on AC wi-fi) at the same time. And the iPad also has a 3G version. Or use one of the apps that turns your phone into a wi-fi router and use it for the laptop and iPad at the same time.
Or get a travel router and connect the laptop, iPhone and iPad via wi-fi. It's just one more piece of gear to carry.
