I have flown this route as Pan Am flight, SFO-HNL-NRT-HKG. This flight ended up stoppng in Tehran and on-ward to London as the PA's Round the World flight.
At that time, the HKG flight landed at KaiTak airport, which enforced a mid-night curfew for take off. Every now and then, when there was a delay enroute, there used to be mad rush to turn the plane around before getting the plane stuck in HKG. I heard that there were times the flight over flew HKG and landed in BKK because of not making the curfew in getting the plane out KaiTak airport.

The Honolulu RCC now used to be the Clipper Club.
