The coffin flat beds used in J by many airlines now are very much a matter of taste and a point of division amongst pax. Either love it or hate it, partly a function of sleeping position and pax size. Everyone agrees that it is "private" to the point of claustrophobic. I've never flown VA but it is the same seat technology so I expect it is no better or worse, and personally I find the sloped QF J bed better as a bed and far better as a seat. That is the big fly in the ointment with this bed technology, most of what it gains in bed mode is at the expense of seat mode. Luckily there is a choice and maybe QF will drop fares to match VA if it starts feeling competition (obviously not up to now).
