BA flights between the U.S. and Europe don't earn AA miles, even though the airlines are partners. I would imagine that this is because BA's economy class is far superior to AA's. It is because lack of antitrust approval, actually.
BA and AA codesharing starts this fall because antitrust approval has been given - final by EU and tentative by DOT that should be final in 3-4 weeks.
I am hearing the codeshare starts October 31st, but that is still just preliminary.
