No, you are changing the particulars of the discussion. No one is unconcerned about terror, however nothing you mentioned is indictative of terror. You go on and on about unattended luggage, but now ignore the liquids, and try to link all that to terror. Even mentioned other attacks not related to those items you seem so concerned about. We are concerned about terror, and we want things like proper screening of hold baggage, and proper bag and checkpoint screening, versus random liquid ban amounts and grouping that would not have stopped any recent "terror" attempts.

As I do a lot of my flying out of LHR & DUB I'm quite happy to see very high levels of security, where all liquids and laptops are examined and there is a very visible police presence everywhere.
Well I fly more than you, guaranteed. And, I've lived in London, including through IRA attacks. I've lived in much bigger cities than London, and worked EU, NATO, and other int'l orgs security treaties including with airports in Italia and plenty of other locations. I can tell you what you mention above is not indicative of "high levels of security". It just means you don't know what real security is, how to look for it, or what "security" for aircraft means. Many on this board do, thus we find your concern about beverages and a bag in an airport with 360 degree surveillance ignorant and comical. What exactly do you expect all those "visible" police to do if there is a real problem by pros in terror? Get killed with everyone else? The "real" security is in the background, and you most likely will never see it.

Unattended unscreened baggage ( which I didn't make clear in my original post ) would soon set alarm bells ringing.
How long was it unattended? As others noted, here in Italia there are plenty of police stings using such bags. How far away was the nearest person. Where exactly was the bag. Real details are important.

Maybe such sang froid was why three US aircraft were able to be taken over simultaneously with such apparent ease.
As noted by others, the rules for dealing with hijackers were different then, but your post about Roma's FCO re: liquids and bags has no bearing on what happened 11 Sept 01. Such 'sang froid' as you typed in such an off colour comment, had no bearing on those attacks and is a non-sequitor to ground terminal security that scares you so.

Note,Your inane personal attacks on Spiff also show a lack of forethought when posting responses addressing the actual topic at hand. Spare me such non-sense in any subsequent reply and just get to the point.

Ciao,
FH
