I must say I agree with this. When you booked the ticket online, you were given the option to register, and you were told that you would only have the possibility to cancel on-line if you registered.

You didn't (unfortunately, because it's a very easy process), and OK, of course you weren't expecting to have to cancel. But you could have made life easier for yourself. Given that you live outside of Europe, any possibility of cancellation was bound to be a pain in the neck if you couldn't do it online.
