Minimum donation is 1000

, but that's probably a better choice than paying an absurd fee to purchase 1000 miles

Not sure I trust shopping online which has failed to credit miles several times. I know they post retroactive but don't want to have to fight over the date and we are getting close to the deadline.
However I think the magazine suggestion is an excellent one - and currently one can subscribe to "Successful Promotions" for 100 miles. Confirmation of new expiration date was instantaneous. ^ Not sure how my 4-year old (the one with expiring miles) will use that - maybe as a coloring book.
