Weird. I get status notifications for every flight. But instead of paging, I signed up for voice calls to my cell. And I don't do it for every flight - it's in My Account, Reservation Preferences tab.
Edited to add: the same automatic system called me about a cancellation recently, about 22 hours before flight time. Of course, it couldn't rebook me automatically, it asked me to call customer service.
