I only wish the CX web site would work better so that I do not have to call as often. On-line upgrades never seem to work for me and I end up calling MPC for something that should not require a call.
Another frustrating thing about online upgrade is it only upgrades the one leg and not all the legs. I.e. JFK-HKG-TPE should all be upgraded but online you can only do JFK-HKG (if it works.) Therefore, like you I had to call MPC to do that.
