I got 'given' SL in April even though I wasn't a MPC member.
They just mailed me the new Asia Miles cards and luggage tags and i don't think I even got an introductory letter! I had to phone in and ask what was going on!
I bet you flown over 30K miles with Asia Miles membership. That's what happened to me many many years ago. I was a AA member than because MPC told me to use AA instead of MPC since I'm US resident. I only signed up for Asian Miles because I was in Hong Kong and forgot my AA card and forgot my AA number. Travel to quite a few places in J to Europe, Middle East, India, China, and Taiwan and quickly accumulated 30K miles before I headed home and then sometime later I got a MPC letter with my SL cards.
Needless to say I'm stuck with MPC ever since.
