I don't think/recall CX ever having sleeper beds for pax but I seem to remember QF and maybe PR having them in the '70s-early '80s. CX was actually relatively new to long-haul flying in the '80s.

They're optional. You'll find them in the tail of 747-400s if fitted.

You may also fit them above the front galley of 777s (again if fitted) for flight crew. BA has them on some of its 777-200s above the door 3 lavs for cabin crew. You'll find a door with FAs disappearing into, and no centre overhead storage in that area. I believe AA may have some in this area too.
