Releasing award seats: no more exceptions for ROP*G?

Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased a BKK-LHR ticket in J and am trying to upgrade it to first class using some miles.

In the past, as a ROP*G I was never refused an upgrade as long as there was availability in the requested cabin (although I have to admit that the last time it happened was about 10 months ago).

Now (still ROP*G) I tried to call 3 times and I have been told that there is no award availability and it's not possible to release a seat. This is strange. The flight has availability even in P class!

I'm trying to understand whether I am just being very unlucky with those 3 agents, or if TG has stopped making exceptions for their own frequent flyers (which, on the contrary, seemed to be the norm in the past). The latter would be very sad.

What's your recent experience?
