I am unsure if this is the correct place to post this question but I am new to international travel and have booked a flight that connects from Alitalia flight 1466 from Venice to Rome where I will connect to transatlantic Delta Flight 241 to Atlanta.

My question is: will I need to wait in baggage claim to receive my non-carry on baggage from Alitalia and then recheck it into the delta terminal, or will Alitatlia transfer it to a delta flight? Also, if I do need to claim it, how much time should I expect to need between flights?
