Agree, hiking boots. I would also suggest looking into crampons, not the super deluxe ones that cost more then the boots, just a $20 or $30 set in case they are needed for ice and snow. It will give you that extra bit of footing you may need, and then you can remove them when you don't need them.

Also great if you happen to be climbing a glacier in Alaska at some point.
