I think it's gone full circle and I think they are transferrable again. I transferred 7k last week from one of my family members and can only think this was made up of 4k sign-on bonus and 3k from the Mr & Mrs Smith promo. There was a period during which I couldn't transfer them though.
Well I certainly wouldn't sign up or go out buying multiple CD/books on the assumption that you can transfer miles given the recent clamp down.
My take on this is that with the new classification of 'non transferable' miles under the family membership, these Mr & Mrs Smith miles would be credited under that classification.
When the offer originally came about, such a classification wasn't in the system - same as with the free 4k miles, you were/are able to transfer them - whereas now, with the new classification I'm sure you wouldn't be able to for any new start up/bonus miles that are awarded.
