I do a lot of TATL on the A330 (MSP->AMS) and it's a pretty good trip.

This week I am doing BE on MSP->NRT, on the 744. Haven't done this route before.

Couple of questions (for the experts);

1) Does the 744 on this route have AVOD ?
2) Assume it's a PMNW crew ?
3) Do they serve a 2nd meal before arriving Tokyo ?
4) Assume it's former NW metal....is/are the aircraft comfortable in BE ? Lie-flat etc.?

Thanks !
MSP-NRT is basically PMNW aircraft with PMNW crew. So, NW WBC hard product with DL tan quilt and big feather pillow but DL meal service:

1) yes, but the movie selection has been Deltafied, which seems to me more guns and violence, more entertainment for kids, fewer chick flicks.

2) yes, MSP based (unlesss IROPs, then who knows?) and many of the same faces that I recognize from PMNW who tended to specialize is TPAC WBC.

3) yes and IIRC one choice is a nice cold plate with roast beef, smoked salmon or shrimp, maybe chicken breast, it varies and I forget the details of the current offering.

4) yes, exactly the same WCB/BE seat as on the 330s (MSP-AMS), angled lie-flat with the lumbar buttons and privacy shell, but smaller overhead bins in the nose and upper deck than on the 330s.

IME on the TPAC flights, the inflight translators (usually young Asian females) are constantly freshening up the lavs between passengers; they usually work hard on these flights, even though they're not involved very much with the meal service (except to take orders, serve the Asian meals, pour tea/coffee, do drinks and sometimes bread runs).

I can appreciate that cleaning bathrooms isn't exactly a duty that FAs wanted when they applied for the job, but IMO it comes with the territory on the long-haul flights. However, part of the problem is passengers with poor aims. Still, it bothers me when I notice FAs working coach coming up to BE to use the lavs. If the lav where they're working is too bad for them to use, something is seriously wrong.

OT, but this is getting into my personal philosophy that airline employees including executives should be willing to suffer their own (coach and RJ) product (including LAX-SYD in Y), eat the food served/sold to (coach) passengers, use their website/phone lines, and go through normal airport security lines. If the chef won't eat his/her own cooking, I don't want to go to that restaurant.
