Which gives me an opportunity to ask something I've been curious about...

What do Americans tote with them when they travel? In Europe the checked baggage allowance has been 20kg/44lbs (total, not per suitcase) for as long as I can remember and most people seem to be fine with it. Why isn't TWO times 22kg/50lbs enough in America?
