Let's say the travelers that upgraded mid-flight were, in fact, general members. We have to sit back and remember, upgrades are not a given, though they are a benefit. We should expect to sit in the cabin we pay for. The OP was on standby for an earlier flight, and he got it. If I were he, I wouldn't kvetch about not getting an upgrade.
