It depends. Are you flying with CA/CZ on a dom or int'l flight?
If domestic within China, you're gonna have to claim your bag and recheck it. If flying into PEK on int'l flight, then it depends on your carrier. CZ does not fly into the same terminal as JL departs, you can pray for your bags to be sent along, but well, if even LHR and CDG can get bags lost all the time, don't count on it. You'd probably need to
clear immigration since the two terminals aren't connected and PEK is not really built for int'l connection until they got T3, pick up your bags, look for the shuttle bus (comes every 15 mins, 24/7), and get dropped off at T3, and recheck your bag and everything again.
If your flight arrives in PEK from overseas with CA, then you might have more luck because the flight lands in T3 and CA has dedicated counter right before immigration to issue your next boarding pass and persumably making sure your bags are tagged to NRT (at CA counter just show them your JL ticket they'd have to, if they don't tell them you'd confirm with CA agents at PEK again).
One big catch!!!, that int'l connecting counter might not be staffed all the time. In fact, I've only seen it staffed 3 times out of 8 when I landed in PEK in the last two months. Idk what one does when the connecting counter is not staffed.....................
If you have the time and visa (if on int'l flight), I'd recommend rechecking at PEk. Their departure hall is quite something to look at too, as a plus. And if you have any OW status, CA/CZ won't honour it but JL would, making sure you get the most out of it.
Good luck at PEK.
