happened to me when i was in harrods london. was buying mother's day gift and wanted to use AMEX (1. I've pre-loaded the account, and 2. get more miles) and they decided to freeze my account then. had to call them and shoot them with bullets afterwards since i've already called and tell them. the agent even bothered telling me it'd all be ok. At least i had card #2.
Moral of story: I always try to bring 2 cash cards and 2 credit cards even if it means locking up one of the cards somewhere. 2) keep a reasonable amount of foreign cash. 3) dont trust the card companies too much
