The Lufthansa spokesperson say the child will be considered an American citizen, because citizenship is determined by the citizenship of the parents, not the place of birth. One day, however, when the little girl, named Trudence, gets a passport it will list the geographic coordinates of the aircraft when she was born, rather than a city.

Lufthansa plans to send a gift to the child and the mother, who won’t be charged for the diversion. The airline says Randle was within the guidelines for traveling safely while pregnant.

I hope she will find enough space on various forms to write the geographic coordinates as her place of birth!
