Completely agree - check with AMEX Canada to see if the deal is available during the congress. As alternates, also check availability at the Four Seasons (another gem of a property, built in a re-purposed historic building). Also the Bulgari (Bvlgari - co-owned by corporate Marriott, but n ability to earn or redeem Marriott Rewards points):

If Amex Platinum Fine Hotels and Resorts does not have this on their list, check also with a Virtuoso-affiliated travel agent for deals with bundled benefits.
General aside - congress halls / convention facilities in Europe (Messe, Fiera, etc) tend not to be in center-city areas - they tend to be in outlying or even suburban locales, which of course goes against the North American "norm" of center-city convention facilities. In Milan, the Hilton property (4* business hotel) is near the Central Rail Station, and the SPG properties are similarly not near the Fiers grounds.
