I've noticed that when I had same day turn mileage runs, I could check in once. But if I came back to print my boarding pass, it would give an error saying I would need to go to the airport.

I remember in the past, AA used to have a feature that if your return was less than 24 hours of your departure, you could print both your departure and return boarding passes at the same time. I guess they took away that feature.
