The new app is indeed coming later this month - the release date will be announced next week. The following link will go to full information about the new apps as soon as they're launched:

We've taken the current app out of the app store until the new release is ready. However, some of you will be seeing an "update" option on itunes for Macs or PCs . This option will only actually work once the new app is released. Apologies for the confusion (it's the way itunes works).

The existing app will still work in the meantime.
