If I could take over this thread with some questions of my own:

1)- On a 'bad day' how long would it take to pass through customs at LAX, (I am normally one of the last passengers to get off the plane.) around 7:30am.
Same question for morning arrivals between 10am-midday? (if the flight is delayed)

2)Many factors to consider I know, but generally speaking when returning to Australia which of the QF flights have the lightest pax loads?

3)Which seats in coach/economy class are often last to be allocated/have the best chance of being empty on flights which aren't 100% full?

4) when flying out of LAX to Australia on a QF flight, is there much reason to arrive at the airport any earlier then 3-3.5 hours before the flight's departure time? I am looking at arriving at the airport around 6:30pm for a departure 4 hours later.
