lisah101, two other notes:
(1) Flight 309 CLT-PHX has never been cancelled in the last several months (according to flightstats.com), so the odds of your son getting home later tonight are good!
(2) even if he doesn't get a meal voucher, $20 will buy him a decent meal with change to spare at several restaurants in the CLT airport, including fast food places like Burger King, Bojangles fried chicken.
