I guess it'll be OK if it couldn't go on the same flight as us, as long as the airline doesn't just leave them out in the open where anyone can just take them, like take any lone luggages into a secure area so we can retrieve them when we arrive...I have only a little flying experience so I'm a bit nervous and make sure everything would go smoothly.
If it isn't claimed shortly after arrival they'll hold it in the baggage services office until a claim is filed. If you miss the flight your PNR (reservations details) will be updated and they'll know that you're on the next flight (or whatever other routing you get) and they'll know to pull the bag and hold it for you.
