Can FA's override LiveTV service?

I flew last night back to AZ and behind me in the bulkhead were two unaccompanied minors traveled by themselves. My guess 9 and 6. Our flight was a -900ER w/ DTV. After take off I heard them ask the FA, "do you need a credit card to watch TV?" And the FA quickly replied YES and walked away. A short bit after, the passenger behind me in row 5 got up and paid for them to watch so they could watch Nick and Spongbob, etc.

Isn't there a way they can override or swipe something as little kids have no means of paying for anything on board. What happens when they have B.O.B. food. Are they going to tell a 6 and 9 year old they need a credit card to eat too?

Or what about if your TV goes out halfway and doesn't work, would you expected to pay again if you can move to another seat?

I think there should be a way that FA's could override the system in events like these.
