When booking on a "third party" site such as Hotwire, Priceline or Expedia, the stay is considered "non-qualifying", thus will not earn points or miles, but you should still earn the other benefits such as late check out or Priority Check In for Platinum members.

I'm addicted to my points and status, so I always book through their own website, or I call the hotel direct to see if they are offering any local specials that will still earn my points.
