You're right about the crazy. On my First Aid training I was told that, unless there is an immediate risk of someone dying, you should never move anyone, even if they are hanging upside down in a car. The moment you intervene then you set yourself up for all sorts of legal stuff down the line.

Very hard when someone is screaming at you to get them out, I would imagine.
