Prior to 9/11, I flew LGW-SAN as I was going out to do my PPL. The flight crew asked me if I wanted to sit in the cockpit for the final 2 hours of the flight. It was great flying over the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas and the approach into San Diego was really impressive in a 777.
I grew up in San Diego, and was very fortunate, as a 7 year old, to be allowed to sit in the jumpseat of an Aero California DC-9 coming back to SAN from SJD. It's quite a descent looking out the window in the cabin, but from the flight deck, it was something else entirely. I can only imagine how precarious things looked from a 777.

I was able to do the same thing on an IB 757 a couple of years later from BCN to AGP, but the landing was at night, and not nearly as memorable.
