Flying back on BA from CDG, the security guy told me that I shouldn't be carrying my pair of tiny little scissors which were (and are) permissible under the '6 cm rule' in the UK.

To describe this pair of scissors, it has blades that are 2.5 cm long (this is the whole of the metal part of the scissors, so the actual blades are actually less than 2 cm long), with rounded tips, and plastic handles. I only carry them for emergency clothes repair - not even good enough for trimming eyebrows etc because they are really rubbish pair of scissors - merely "better than nothing at 2am while trying to cut off the excess thread from putting a button back on my shirt" ("trying to", because they're so bad that they struggle to cut threads).

Do the French not permit scissors of any size at all, or did I encounter a strange security guy? The guy didn't mind the 3" long eyebrow tweezers with pointy ends or the mini nail clippers so it makes no sense to me that he didn't like my scissors.

He said, "but on this occasion, you can take it, but next time, put it in your checked luggage". So I did not lose them, but it made me wonder if the French have a "no scissors but we don't care about the eyebrow tweezers or nail clippers" rule.
